A group of Republicans, including 2012 nominee Mitt Romney, tried to get Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to run for president in hopes of preventing Donald Trump from winning the election, according to Philip Rucker and Robert Costa of TheWashington Post.

Cuban declined to enter the race.

“I don’t see it happening. There isn’t enough time,” Cuban told the Post in an email, adding that he would “put [Trump] in his place” if he did run.

Other targets from the group reportedly included former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, former senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and retired Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal.
