Toronto Raptors president and general manager Masai Ujiri confirmed that the team is in contract negotiations with coach Dwane Casey, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
"You build your culture, and you build your team, and you try to learn how to build, making players want to stay here,” Ujiri said. “That's the first step.”
Ujiri and Casey met just three days after the team lost a six-game series to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Eastern Conference finals.
Casey has one year remaining on his contract with a $4 million option by the Raptors.

Casey finished his fifth season with the Raptors with a 56–26 record in the regular season before leading the team to its first–ever Eastern Conference Finals. He is 263–253 in those five seasons.
Ujiri also noted that re-signing DeMar DeRozan is the team's No. 1 priority.
