The NBA Finals have concluded, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are on top of the basketball world for the first time in franchise history. The Cavs came from 3–1 down in the Finals for the first time in league history, beating the Golden State Warriors behind a triple-double from series MVP LeBron James.
With that, the NBA off-season has officially begun. The Warriors are already looking at bolstering their roster, as are several other teams on the brink of contention.
Here are some of the latest NBA free agency rumors:
• The Golden State Warriors are aggressively pursuing Dallas Mavericks center Dirk Nowitzki, reports Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News.
• The Cavaliers are in a position to trade forward Kevin Love, but have given no indication yet that they plan to do so, Sporting News’s Sean Deveney reports.
• If Cavaliers star LeBron James opts out of his current contract, he stands to make $30 million next season. His current contract will pay $24 million for 2016–17. The Lakers, Heat and Knicks have been rumored as landing places this summer, though James has given no indication of wanting to leave Cleveland.
• When asked about why he is staying on the 2016 Olympics team, Kevin Durant said that he wants to get back to playing basketball after his team fell to the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, Royce Young of ESPN reports. Durant has still not given an indication about his free agency plans.
