Stephen Curry Hits NBA Record 13 Three-Pointers vs. Pelicans
There's no longer a tie at the top of the NBA's leaderboard for three-pointers in a game. Warriors guard Stephen Curry set a new league record by hitting 13 three-pointers in a 116-106 home victory over the Pelicans on Monday. Curry, who shared the previous record of 12 threes with Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall, needed just 17 attempts to make history.
Most Three-Pointers In A Game, NBA History
Stephen Curry, Warriors vs. Pelicans, 11/7/2016: 13 (on 17 attempts)
Stephen Curry, Warriors vs. Thunder, 2/27/2016: 12 (on 16 attempts)
Kobe Bryant, Lakers vs. SuperSonics, 1/7/2003: 12 (on 18 attempts)
Donyell Marshall, Raptors vs. Sixers, 3/13/2005: 12 (on 19 attempts)
The record-setting shot came with a little more than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Draymond Green initiated the offense from the right side of the court, waiting for Curry to use a Kevin Durant screen and cut towards the ball. Green’s pass was on the money as Curry turned towards the basket, catching the ball two steps behind the arc. With Pelicans guard E’Twaun Moore trailing the play, Curry had plenty of daylight to launch a shot that rattled home.
Coincidentally, Curry’s latest record night comes one game after he saw another record snapped. During the Warriors’ loss to the Lakers on Friday, Curry went 0-for-10 from deep, marking his first game without at least one three-pointer since a Nov. 11, 2014, loss to the Spurs. That streak, which spanned 157 consecutive games, stands as an all-time NBA record.
"It was nice to make the first one after last game," Curry told reporters after the game. "I was able to get some open looks early and often, and good things happened. The last three was very special, with the flow of the game, and it being kinda close. I made one or two tough ones, and the last one was kind of a heat check, just to see if it goes in or not. Thankfully it did. ... This was a special night."
Curry finished with a season-high 46 points (on 16-25 shooting), five rebounds and five assists in the win over New Orleans. Here’s a look at his shot chart.
