Zion Williamson has been ruled out of the Pelicans' final preseason game against the Knicks with right knee soreness, the team announced on Thursday.
According to the release, Williamson did not travel with the team to New York on Thursday and opted to remain in New Orleans to undergo further testing and evaluation on his knee.
The No. 1 overall pick was averaging 23.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in just 27 minutes a night across four preseason games, shooting 71% from the field to help the Pelicans go 4-0.
The Pelicans said further updates will be provided when they are available.
New Orleans opens the season against the defending champion Toronto Raptors on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
