Stephen Curry Breaks Kevin Durant’s Game 7 Scoring Record, Prompting Durant’s Praise
Stephen Curry and the Warriors advanced to the Western Conference semifinals on Sunday following their resounding victory over the Kings in Game 7. Curry made some jaw-dropping history in the win, scoring 50 points to overtake Kevin Durant’s record for the most points in a Game 7 in NBA history.
After Curry’s historic afternoon, Durant took to Twitter to congratulate him on becoming the new record-holder, sending his former teammate a four-word message.
“Legendary 30. 50 pieces,” wrote Durant.
Durant had set the previous record for most points in a Game 7 back in 2021, when he dropped 48 points in the Nets’ loss against the Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Durant’s record only stood for a couple of seasons before Curry shattered it on Sunday as he led the Warriors to the crucial Game 7 win.
Curry converted on 20-of-38 field goal attempts, including 7-of-18 three-pointers. He added six assists and eight rebounds while registering a +25 plus-minus across 38 minutes.
In addition to surpassing Durant’s record with his 50-point showing against the Kings, the 35-year-old became the all-time leader in Game 7 three-pointers, having netted 25 in his career, overtaking Ray Allen, according to Basketball Reference.
Following Sunday’s win, Curry and Golden State will prepare for their second-round matchup against LeBron James and the Lakers.
