NBA Makes Final Decision on Jaylen Brown's Game 7 Technical Foul

The league looked into the technical foul Brown received from Scott Foster.

The NBA announced Monday its decision to rescind Celtics guard Jaylen Brown’s technical foul issued by referee Scott Foster. 

Brown was initially given the foul in the second quarter of Boston’s Game 7 against the 76ers on Sunday. 

“Jaylen Brown's (BOS) technical foul (6:50, 2nd qtr) from the game on 5/14/23 has been rescinded upon league office review,” wrote the NBA in an announcement on Monday. 

The 26-year-old received the foul after an incident near Philadelphia’s bench involving Sixers guard Georges Niang. Niang appeared to attempt to grab Brown’s leg after the Celtics star saved a loose ball from going out of bounds.

Brown reacted by turning and shouting in the direction of the 76ers’ bench before Foster came over and quickly issued both players a technical foul. 

He commented on the incident after the game, explaining he carried no hard feelings towards Niang, whom he felt was “caught up in the intensity of the game.” Brown felt differently about Foster’s involvement in the play, indicating the official gave him a technical foul without a full understanding of the incident. 

“... And here comes Scott Foster. Right away before even deciphering the situation just gives me a tech,” said Brown. “I definitely didn’t want to get a tech in that situation.”
