LeBron James told reporters after the game on Monday night that he will need to take some time to think about his NBA future, sparking early intrigue to the offseason for one of the greatest franchises in sports.

James played in 55 games for the Lakers this season thanks to a foot injury that leaves him awaiting an MRI this week to determine what’s next. James previously said he spoke to the “LeBron James of feet” who said that he would not need surgery on the injured tendon in his foot, but an MRI this week will confirm next steps.

In addition, the uncertainty over the roster construction will likely play a factor into what James will do next season.

With that in mind, the Lakers have reportedly had internal discussions about a hypothetical trade for Hawks star Trae Young, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reported on Tuesday.

Buha noted that Young is a client of Klutch, the agency that represents both James and Davis.

An addition of Young into the fold would be significant, forming a new big three for the Lakers with James in the twilight of his career. It also seems extremely unlikely that James would hang it up if he had another legitimate opportunity to win a championship next season.

While Young is Atlanta’s franchise player, the Hawks have considered trading him, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

It will be interesting to see how the offseason transpires for the Lakers, but given the team’s failed pursuit of Kyrie Irving at the deadline, bringing another star guard into the mix to play alongside James and Davis would make Los Angeles a legitimate NBA Finals contender next season.
