Victor Wembanyama, Metropolitans 92 Clinch LNB Finals Berth
Before coming to the NBA with unreal expectations, Victor Wembanyama looks to add to his impressive résumé in France’s top pro league. The projected No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA draft and his team, Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92, beat Lyon-Villeurbanne on Sunday to advance to the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB) Finals.
Wembanyama tallied 15 points in the 71–69 victory, along with seven rebounds and five blocks, in the standout performance. One of those rejections was a crucial one while his team had a three-point advantage with less than a minute to go in regulation. After the win, the big man took to Twitter with his elation ahead of the championship series.
“Finals babyyyyy !!! So proud of my guys. Job ain’t done tho,” he said on Twitter.
The French phenom added an alien emoji, presumably as a nod to LeBron James’s viral comment about him back in October 2022 when James called him an “alien” due to his remarkable height and skill set.
The best-of-five LNB championship series between Wembanyama’s Metropolitans 92 squad and Monaco is set to start Saturday.
