Nets Expected to Match Offers for Cameron Johnson, per Insider

The power forward, a restricted free agent, started 25 games for Brooklyn last season after being acquired from the Suns.

Nets forward Cameron Johnson is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason.

Although there’s been some talk that Johnson could be re-signed and traded, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on a recent episode of Brian Windhorst & the Hoop Collective podcast that he believes the forward is expected to stay in Brooklyn.

With that, it’s possible the Nets could match the lucrative figures that have been mentioned as a potential price to acquire Johnson.

“I think he’ll probably get around 90 [million],” Windhorst said. “If a team comes hunting, he could approach 100 [million], maybe not all guaranteed. I think the Nets will match up to that level.”

Windhorst’s estimate is based on a report that Johnson was offered a four-year contract worth approximately $65 million last season. Windhorst says Johnson could receive a more substantial offer this offseason.

Johnson played in 25 games for the Nets last season after being acquired from the Suns. He averaged 16.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for Brooklyn.
