Sixers, Patrick Beverley Agree to One-Year Contract

The veteran is heading to Philadelphia on a veteran’s minimum salary deal.

The 76ers and veteran point guard Patrick Beverley have agreed to a one-year deal, he revealed on The Pat Bev Podcast‘s Twitter account on Saturday. Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.com reports the pact will be a fully guaranteed one-year deal for the league minimum.

The soon-to-be 35-year-old Beverley has bounced around the NBA the past couple seasons, but has proven to be a defensive force. He’s been named to the league’s All-Defensive team three different times in his career, while shooting 37.3% from deep over his 11 NBA seasons.

Beverley spent last season with the Lakers and Bulls, averaging 6.2 points and 3.7 rebounds on 40% shooting from the floor in 67 games. Although he’s a step slower than he was at his peak, he is still a capable, gritty defender who will add value as a rotational player to a contending 76ers squad with NBA MVP Joel Embiid.

It’s been a busy few days for Philadelphia, with star guard James Harden exercising his player option and requesting a trade. The Sixers already have lost Georges Niang in free agency, and more roster turnover could be coming.

Beverley certainly will help Philadelphia defensively next season as the team looks to make a deep postseason run under new coach Nick Nurse.
