Celtics Strike Trade for Jrue Holiday Days After Damian Lillard Deal Sent Guard to Blazers
The Celtics stepped in quickly when word that Jrue Holiday was on the trade market and struck a deal to bring the former Bucks guard to town, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Holiday, who was formerly with the Bucks, was traded to the Blazers as part of the Damian Lillard deal, and now will team up with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
The deal will send Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams, a 2024 first-round pick from the Warriors and a 2029 unprotected pick from Boston to Portland in exchange for Holiday, per Wojnarowski.
For Portland, the move sending Holiday to Boston adds to the overall package they’ve been able to net in exchange for Lillard after dealing him to Milwaukee. As ESPN’s Bobby Marks detailed, the Blazers have added three potential starters, three first-round picks and two pick swaps:
- Deandre Ayton
- Malcolm Brogdon
- Robert Williams
- 2024 Warriors first-round pick (top 4 protected)
- 2028 Bucks pick swap
- 2029 Bucks first-round pick
- 2029 Celtics first-round pick
- 2030 Bucks pick swap
Portland’s entire landscape has shifted drastically since the Lillard deal, as they’ve addressed numerous key areas of need, specifically with two big men in Ayton and Williams who should be able to step in and immediately produce at a high level.
