LeBron James Shares Hopeful Outlook for Bronny’s Recovery, College Hoops Season
LeBron James shared nothing but optimism Monday during the Lakers media day when asked about his son Bronny’s recovery from a cardiac arrest suffered during a July practice at USC. He went as far as to say he expects his oldest son to play for the Trojans this year.
“Bronny’s doing extremely well,” James told media members. “He has began his rehab process to get back on the floor this season with his teammates at USC. He’s on the up-and-up. It’s definitely a whirlwind, a lot of emotions for our family this summer, but the best thing we have is each other.”
The father of three went on to declare that he’ll dedicate his 2023–24 season to Bronny.
“I’m going to dedicate this season to Bronny because of the incident that happened this summer,” James said. “It just puts everything into perspective. No matter what’s going on, your life at that point of time, the only thing that matters is your family. To see what he had to go through, what he’s been through over the last few months, it’s been a lot.”
The USC freshman hasn’t returned to full basketball activities yet and the team continues to monitor his medical condition. The 18-year-old was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect that likely caused the cardiac arrest, and doctors have said he’s expected to eventually make a full return to basketball.
