The 76ers duo of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey have meshed well on the court over their three seasons together. But Maxey got brutally honest recently while praising his teammate and making an admission about his initial thoughts after landing with Philadelphia.

During a spot on The Old Man & The Three podcast with JJ Redick, Maxey said he wasn’t sure what to expect at first, because his initial thought of Embiid was of the video of the center eating a cheeseburger on the training table before a game in 2018

“I’m thinking on the outside looking in, I see Joel, before I got there, as the cheeseburger on the training table, that’s all I knew,” Maxey said.

“But he’s amazing, he’s a good dude, he works hard, I’m proud of him.”

The whole clip featured Maxey handing down heavy doses of praise on the NBA’s reigning Most Valuable Player, both for his play on the floor and for the person he is off the court.
