Kevin Durant and Victor Wembanyama faced off in the NBA for the first time when the Suns hosted the Spurs on Tuesday night.

Ahead of the clash on Halloween, Durant was asked how it felt for Wembanyama to have had named him his favorite player, to which the 13-time All-Star had a funny response.

“It means I’m old,” responded Durant.

Following San Antonio’s loss to the Clippers on Sunday, Wembanyama told reporters that Durant is among his all-time favorite NBA players.

“I like the fact that for years and years, nobody found a way to guard him really, consistently,” Wembanyama said. “This is probably the reason why he was one of my top favorite players ever."

Durant is in his 16th NBA season. He was drafted in 2007, back when Wembanyama was still just three years old and the SuperSonics were still a franchise. At 35 years old, Durant is the oldest player on Phoenix’s roster and the 23rd oldest player in the NBA.

Now, the 19-year-old rookie is lining up opposite the superstar he grew up idolizing, which serves as a humbling reminder for Durant that he’s getting older.

Durant still has plenty in his bag, however, and he showcased that early when one-on-one against Wembanyama on Tuesday, knocking down a smooth jumper that was practically impossible to defend, even for the 7’ 4” Wembanyama.
