Ex-Warrior Iguodala Makes Jump to High-Level Position With NBA Players Association
Former Warriors forward Andre Iguodala is expected to be named the new acting executive director of the National Basketball Players Association, the organization announced on Thursday. Tamika Tremaglio, the NBPA’s current director, is stepping down from her role following 22 months in the position.
Iguodala officially retired from the NBA in October after 19 seasons in the league, including over a decade on the NBPA’s Executive Committee. While the forward spent eight seasons with the 76ers, he is most known for his role on the Warriors’ four championship teams since 2014.
“In addition to his work on the Committee, Andre has led multiple successful business ventures in his career off the court,” the NBPA said in a statement. “With his experience, Iguodala is well-positioned to have an immediate impact in his role and work tandem with the other members of the EC.”
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Iguodala will serve as the acting executive director while the organization goes through a formal search to find Tremaglio’s replacement. Tremaglio took the position in January of 2022, after Michelle Roberts retired following over seven years in that role.
“I am honored to take on this role and serve the players, who are the heart and soul of the NBA,” Iguodala said in the statement. “I’m presented with a unique opportunity to take all that I’ve learned as a player over the course of my 19-year career and apply it to creating an even stronger and more influential union for current and future generations of players.”
The NBA and NBPA agreed to a new Collective Bargaining Agreement in April, a deal which is set to run for the next seven seasons. Wojnarowski reports that following those negotiations, Tremaglio and the union discussed her departure, and they eventually settled on Iguodala as the interim replacement.
