Knicks, Nets, Heat Loom as Possible Donovan Mitchell Trade Destinations, per Insider
It’s hard to pinpoint the exact plan for the Cavaliers and guard Donovan Mitchell, but chatter around the NBA seems to point to the All-Star’s future being with a different team. And while Mitchell is under contract through July 2025, potential trade scenarios are difficult to gauge.
But on Monday’s episode of ESPN’s Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast, Windhorst highlighted the potential “bidding war” between the Nets and Knicks if Mitchell is made available via trade. But beyond that, Windhorst made an interesting comment about the Heat’s potential interest along with “at least two other teams” in the Southwest Division, per Nets Daily.
The list of potential teams that could emerge as suitors for Mitchell seems to be growing longer by the day. But one thing that seems to pick up steam each time the conversation comes up is the belief that Mitchell eventually will leave Cleveland. On the same podcast, ESPN insider Tim Bontemps reiterated that he does not believe the guard will re-sign with the Cavaliers.
Time will tell, but it’s easy to envision the Heat, Knicks, Nets and other teams having strong interest in adding a player of Mitchell’s caliber.
