LeBron James and Others to Star in ‘Quarterback’-Style NBA Docuseries, per Report
After the success of Quarterback, another league is reportedly jumping into the all-access documentary space with Netflix.
The streaming giant is creating an NBA documentary series surrounding five All-Stars in the 2024 season, according to a Wednesday morning report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Per Charania, the subjects of the series will be Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, and Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis.
Combined, the quintet of players has made 33 All-Star teams (with the caveat that James alone has made 19).
Netflix has has considerable success with its litany of sports documentaries in recent years, most notably Formula 1: Drive to Survive—widely credited with boosting the venerable racing circuit's popularity in the United States.
Quarterback, which premiered on July 12, profiled Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and then-Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota. The series was well-received by critics, garnering an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
