Icy roads can cause snow days for NBA players, just like the rest of us.

Portland Trail Blazers’ center Deandre Ayton will miss Wednesday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets with an interesting designation: ice.

According to a report from Blazers beat reporter Casey Holdahl, Ayton was unable to make it to the Moda Center in Portland due to thick ice enveloping his neighborhood. He tried for hours to get out of his neighborhood, but he was unsuccessful.

The Trail Blazers even sent members of the team to try to get him from his house, but no one was able to make it all the way there with the ice. The specifics of the Blazers’ techniques to rescue Ayton have not yet been revealed.

Ayton was then listed on the Trail Blazers’ injury report ahead of tip, but the reasoning was listed as “not with team.” Ayton does not have an injury at this time.

Oregon, including the Portland area, endured an intense winter storm this week. As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 50,000 Oregon residents were without power, via PowerOutage.us. Pictures of the roads across the state looked more like ice rinks than roads for cars to drive on.
