NBA Fines Lakers’ D’Angelo Russell for Kicking Ball into Stands
Following the double overtime thriller between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors on Saturday, a 145-144 victory for Los Angeles, guard D’Angelo Russell has heard from the NBA about his postgame celebration. The 27-year-old guard, who had a big night in the win, kicked the ball into the stands. And on Monday, the league revealed the decision to discipline Russell.
The NBA issued a statement that Russell had been fined $15,000 for “kicking the game ball into the spectator stands” on Jan. 27 against Golden State.
Russell, whose name has been popular in various trade rumors and reports recently, is having a monster month through January. He’s averaging a personal best in points per game over a single month of his career since January 2020, almost exactly four years ago. Through 11 games, he’s tallied 23.9 points and 6.2 assists per while shooting 50.8% from the field.
