Cavaliers' Darius Garland Set to Return From Jaw Injury This Week, per Report
The Cleveland Cavaliers—already one of the hottest teams in the NBA—appear ready to return to full strength.
Point guard Darius Garland intends to return Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons from a jaw injury that has kept him out since mid-December, according to a Tuesday morning report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Garland fractured his jaw on Dec. 14 on Dec. 14 during Cleveland’s 116–107 loss to the Boston Celtics.
In 20 games this season, Garland—an All-Star in 2022—is averaging 20.7 points and 5.9 assists per game.
He will join a Cavaliers team that has been dominant of late, winning nine of its last 10 games—including back-to-back victories over the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers.
Cleveland currently sits in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, a half-game back of the fourth-place New York Knicks.
Garland—who turned 24 on Friday—has finished in the top 10 in assists per game two seasons running. The Vanderbilt product signed a five-year, $193 million extension with the Cavaliers in the summer of '22.
