D'Angelo Russell Gets Ruthlessly Heckled By Hawks Fans Amid Lakers Trade Rumors
Los Angeles Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell didn’t receive a warm welcome from Atlanta Hawks fans at the State Farm Arena on Tuesday.
Russell has been linked with a trade away from the Lakers, who are rumored to be hopeful of including him in a deal to land Hawks’ guard Dejounte Murray ahead of the deadline. Atlanta, however, is not interested in acquiring Russell’s services, and would prefer the 27-year-old is dealt to a third team, according to a report from ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Fans at the State Farm Arena made their opinions on that potential trade abundantly clear, making it extremely apparent that Russell is not wanted on the Hawks.
As Russell prepared to take a pair of foul shots early into the first half of Tuesday’s game, one section of fans began chanting, “We don’t want you!” at the Los Angeles guard.
Although Russell has rediscovered some of his best form of late, fans in Atlanta made clear that they aren’t keen on the idea of pairing him with Trae Young in the backcourt.
The Lakers are expected to be buyers at the trade deadline, with the team looking to better position itself to make a late playoff push. It’s certainly possible Russell finds himself getting dealt come February’s trade deadline, but it doesn’t seem Hawks fans are overly optimistic about the possibility of adding him to the team.
