As they fight for footing in a crowded Eastern Conference play-in race, the Chicago Bulls have lost one of their stars for the season.

Bulls guard Zach LaVine will undergo surgery on his right foot that will keep him out of action for four to six months, the team announced Saturday afternoon. Per Chicago, the surgery is expected to be performed this coming week.

LaVine, 28, has not played since spraining his right ankle during the Bulls’ 116–110 win over the Toronto Raptors on Jan. 18.

The two-time All-Star has been the subject of trade chatter for years, despite his sizable contract. The UCLA product is owed $43 million in 2025, $46 million in 2026, and he has a $49 million player option in 2027.

LaVine is averaging 19.5 points (a six-year low), 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this season.

Chicago currently sits in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, 14 games behind the first-place Boston Celtics.
