Veteran point guard Kyle Lowry has secured a contract buyout with the Charlotte Hornets, and will sign with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Lowry was traded from the Miami Heat to Charlotte in late January for a package that landed the Heat point guard Terry Rozier. The expectation was that Lowry would be bought out of Charlotte, and now that finally appears to be the case. He did not play a single game with the Hornets.

Lowry is a Philadelphia native, having played high school basketball at Cardinal Dougherty High School prior to starring at Villanova under coach Jay Wright. The 37-year-old Lowry will now reunite with his old coach Nick Nurse, who he won an NBA title with as a member of the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

In 37 games this season with the Heat, Lowry has averaged 8.2 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds on 42.6% shooting from the floor and 38.5% shooting from three.
