LeBron James Is Committed to Lakers Despite Warriors' Trade Offer, Rich Paul Says
The Golden State Warriors were reportedly attempting to acquire Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James at the NBA trade deadline, though those efforts proved futile.
Speaking with Stephen A. Smith on Wednesday, James’s agent Rich Paul confirmed the report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne which claimed that the Warriors “made an unsuccessful bid” to convince the Lakers to trade the 39-year-old at the deadline. Paul made clear that his client is committed to the Lakers and had no interest in such a move.
“Obviously, you know it’s true. Woj and Ramona are not going to report something that’s false. But I think it’s a testament to LeBron and also to the Warriors who continue to be aggressive and want to compete,” said Paul.“[LeBron] is committed to the Lakers, Jeanie [Buss] has been an incredible partner for him and us, and I think it’s important for that to be understood and to be respected.”
Reports emerged earlier this week that Los Angeles received interest from various teams, including the Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers, about potentially trading for James at the trade deadline, but the Lakers rebuffed all inquiries.
Although the idea of James teaming up with Stephen Curry in Golden State is undoubtedly an exciting one, Paul made clear the four-time MVP hasn’t balked on his commitment to Los Angeles.
