Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Dončić has been on a tear this season, and he’s been especially dominant since the NBA All-Star break. Amid Dončić’s stellar run of seven consecutive triple-doubles, Mavs assistant general manager Michael Finley shared an incredible story from earlier in the season.

Dončić embarrassed former teammate Grant Williams after a torrent of trash talk in practice. Finley described how Williams attempted to get under Dončić’s skin, which quickly backfired.

“They had a scrimmage going, and he’s talking trash to Luka up and down the court. So finally, Luka says, ‘O.K.,’” Finley told 105.3 The Fan. “And I’ll tell you, Luka went on a 26-6 run by himself. … He showed everything, the threes, the post-up, the floaters, everything, by himself.”

Finley was then asked whether Dončić reciprocated the trash talk while taking his teammates to school, to which the assistant GM responded, “No, he didn’t say a word.”

“And everybody on the sideline, including the coaches, were like, ‘Do not poke the bear.’ And we had guests in the gym at the time, and they’re on the sidelines oohing and ahhing. It was unbelievable.” Finley explained.

Williams since has been traded to the Charlotte Hornets, and Dončić is on the fringe of averaging a triple-double for the season. Through 57 games, the All-Star guard is averaging a league-high 34.6 points, 9.9 assists and 9.1 rebounds per game on 49.5% shooting from the field.
