Celtics, Jrue Holiday Agree to Four-Year Contract Extension, per Report
Jrue Holiday is set to remain with the Boston Celtics for the long term after agreeing to a four-year contract extension on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Holiday had a $37.36 million player option in his contract for the 2024–25 season after which he was due to hit unrestricted free agency. Instead, he will remain with the Celtics through the 2027-28 campaign and will earn $135 million over the course of his new deal, which comes out to an average annual value of $33.75 million.
The extension will help the organization save some money against the cap next season, while also locking down the star point guard on a new deal to help keep the current roster in tact a while longer.
Holiday, who arrived in Boston via trade this offseason, has cemented himself as the team's starting point guard and has helped elevate the Celtics' already esteemed defense. Across 68 games this season, Holiday has averaged 12.5 points, 4.9 assists and 5.4 rebounds while shooting at an efficient 43% from three-point range.
Holiday becomes the fourth player in NBA history aged 33 or older to sign a fully guaranteed contract worth at least $100 million, joining LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Al Horford, per Wojnarowski.
