French center Alex Sarr, a candidate to be the No. 1 selection in June, officially declared for the 2024 NBA draft on Friday.

Sarr broke the news himself during an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews on NBA Today.

The 18-year-old Sarr was born and raised in France. He joined Real Madrid in Spain as a 14-year-old and later moved to the United States in 2021 to play in the Overtime Elite league in Atlanta.

Sarr signed with the Perth Wildcats of the Australian NBL last May and averaged 9.7 points on 52% shooting from the field to go along with 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks across 24 games. Perth advanced to the NBL playoff semifinals before falling to the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Sarr, who stands 7'1" and boasts a wingspan over 7'4", is projected to be a top-three pick in the 2024 NBA draft.
