BYU is set to hire Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young as the school's next head coach, according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 42-year-old Young, who was the NBA's highest-paid assistant and considered to be a strong candidate for NBA coaching vacancies this offseason, will replace Mark Pope, who left BYU for the Kentucky head coaching job.

Although Young was expected to be in consideration for several NBA jobs this summer, he was sold on the BYU job thanks to a "sizable commitment," according to Wojnarowski.

Young has spent a majority of his career as an assistant in the NBA and as a head coach in the G League. There, he led the Utah Flash from 2010-11, the Iowa Energy from '11-'13 and the Delaware 87ers from '14-16.

Young spent four years as an assistant on the Philadelphia 76ers coaching staff after leaving the G League, and has been with the Suns since 2020.
