Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to Get New Role With Converse After Extension, per Report
In the wake of a season for the ages, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander appears set to receive a new role in the sneaker world.
Gilgeous-Alexander is signing a multiyear extension with Converse that will make him the company's basketball creative director, according to a Thursday morning report from footwear reporter Nick DePaula.
According to DePaula, Gilgeous-Alexander "has begun designing a (signature footwear and apparel) collection that will release in 2025."
Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game this season and was named to the All-Star team for the second straight year. It is expected that he will finish in or near the top three of the MVP voting, and he will likely lead a stacked Canadian roster at this summer's Olympics.
The Toronto native and Kentucky product originally signed with Converse in the summer of 2020, after his first season with the Thunder.
Oklahoma City is scheduled to open its playoff run Sunday evening against either the New Orleans Pelicans or Sacramento Kings.
