For the time being, the Philadelphia 76ers are expected to have a first-round selection in the 2024 NBA Draft.

As the Sixers are typically buyers at the trade deadline, they are viewed as a team that could toss up draft assets in a deal to net a win-now type of player. For now, though, the Sixers are on pace to make a selection beyond the lottery.

In an early 2024 mock NBA Draft, Bleacher Report issues the Sixers a brand new guard with the 24th overall pick, projecting Tyrese Proctor to land in their laps.

With the 24th Pick…

“Tyrese Proctor has made some marginal improvement this year, mostly with his finishing off drives and playmaking IQ. …. Flashes of shotmaking versatility, self-creation into jumpers and playmaking will keep interest alive in a 6'5", 19-year-old combo. But a lengthy absence after his start will make it tough for Proctor to win over more NBA teams.”

After initially taking Proctor off the board with the 12th overall selection, BR projects a slide for the Duke product. Not only is the 19-year-old sophomore off to a tough start to the season, but he recently suffered a leg injury, which could derail his 2023-2024 effort.

This season, Proctor started in eight games for Duke. Averaging 28 minutes on the floor, he’s attempting eight shots per game, finding success on 44 percent of them. From three, he has knocked down 32 percent of his shots on four attempts per game.

So far, there hasn’t been a ton of improvement from Proctor on the offensive end of the floor compared to his freshman effort in terms of production. Though 44 career games with the Blue Devils, Proctor has averaged ten points, four assists, and three rebounds.

While the severity of his recent setback is yet to be revealed, missing an extended period of time could lead Proctor to slide down draft boards.

The combo guard had a lot of hype surrounding him heading into his sophomore effort as he showed tons of flashes with his ability to score in his debut run at Duke. The former five-star prospect has high expectations attached to him, therefore, his return to the court should have NBA scouts intrigued.
