76ers Add Patrick Beverley in Free Agency
The Philadelphia 76ers have added a veteran prospect to their backcourt. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixers are bringing on Patrick Beverley for the 2023-2024 NBA season.
Beverley, a defensive-minded guard, is a former second-round pick. He got his start with the Houston Rockets in 2013 and spent five seasons playing alongside James Harden.
Following his run with Houston, Beverley joined the Los Angeles Clippers in 2017. He spent four seasons in LA before taking his talents to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Although Beverley had a strong season in Minnesota, averaging nearly ten points per game in 58 outings, he found himself traded to the Los Angeles Lakers last summer.
Beverley’s run with the Lakers lasted just 45 games. After averaging 27 minutes on the floor in LA, Beverley was waived by the Lakers. A couple of weeks later, the veteran guard joined the Eastern Conference by signing with the Chicago Bulls.
Last year, Beverley started in 22 games for Chicago. Spending 28 minutes on the floor per game, he averaged six points and four assists. Beverley knocked down 40 percent of his shots and 31 percent of his threes.
Heading into his 12th NBA season, Beverley will join the Sixers. The 34-year-old guard brings playoff experience, veteran toughness, and vocal leadership to a Sixers team that is looking to get past the second-round hump.
Beverley joins a handful of former Rockets on the Sixers, as Philadelphia signed veterans PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr. to open free agency last summer. This time around, Beverley becomes the Sixers’ first signing of the summer.
