76ers’ Developmental Prospect Signs With San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are snagging a member of the Philadelphia 76ers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spurs will add veteran guard David Duke Jr. on a two-way contract.
The 24-year-old will get another opportunity to potentially carve out a role for himself at the NBA level.
In 2021, Duke went undrafted out of Providence. Eventually, he landed a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, garnering a two-way contract. He played the 2021-2022 season as a member of the Nets, appearing in 22 matchups, averaging 16 minutes on the court.
Last season, Duke spent 23 games on the court for the Nets during his sophomore effort. Although his playing time was down to ten minutes per game, Duke still averaged four points while shooting a career-high 46 percent from the field.
During the 2023 offseason, Duke signed with the 76ers. He joined them for training camp and the preseason but was waived before opening night. Although the Sixers cut the guard loose, their G League affiliate acquired his rights, allowing Duke to join them for the start of the 2023-2024 G League run.
This season, Duke appeared in 11 games for the Blue Coats. He started in eight of those matchups and averaged 32 minutes on the floor. Taking nearly 16 shots per game, Duke hit on 43 percent of his field goals and knocked down 37 percent of his threes. Prior to his exit from Delaware, Duke averaged 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Now, he’ll get an opportunity to develop with the Spurs’ organization, where he’s set to split time with the main roster and its G League affiliate in Austin.
