76ers’ Joel Embiid Ties Hall of Famer With Current Scoring Streak
Once again, Joel Embiid is having an MVP-caliber season for the Philadelphia 76ers. After winning the award last season, Embiid is outdoing his own performance this year as he continues to chase NBA records.
After getting cleared for action for the Sixers’ last two games after missing a handful of matchups due to a setback, Embiid continued to build on his current scoring streak, which started on November 17.
In a matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, Embiid scored 32 points, which is an average showing for the two-time NBA scoring champion.
However, the big man hasn’t scored fewer than 30 points since that date, and he extended the streak on Tuesday night in a matchup against the Denver Nuggets.
Checking in for 38 minutes, Embiid knocked down 13 of his 22 shots from the field. He also collected 12 points from the charity stripe. Scoring over 40 points for the second-straight night, Embiid extended his 30-plus streak to 18 games in a row. With that, he tied Hall of Fame Elgin Baylor, putting together the sixth-longest such streak in NBA history.
Once again, Embiid continues to be a scoring machine in the NBA. Through his first 28 games of the 2023-2024 NBA season, Embiid has averaged 34.9 points per game. Not only does he lead the league currently, but Embiid is on pace to notch his career-high for the third straight season.
By tying Baylor with another 30-plus-point night, Embiid is now chasing Wilt Chamberlain, who holds four out of the next five spots on the list. Former 76ers guard James Harden holds the other, as he scored 30 points and over for 32 games in a row while with the Houston Rockets.
