Following the days of having Allen Iverson lead the way for the Philadelphia 76ers, South Philly was starved for a new superstar after the former No. 1 pick packed up for Denver.

While it took many years to find him, the Sixers were well aware of the fact that they had a new face of the franchise to take the torch in Joel Embiid.

For two straight seasons, Embiid garnered MVP attention but couldn’t quite hoist the hardware. Last season, the Sixers’ center was finally crowned the league’s most valuable.

And Embiid hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. Not only is the big man putting up even better numbers in 2023-2024 as a follow-up MVP campaign, but he’s been on a historical scoring streak and broke a franchise record on Monday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Shortly after, Iverson took to Instagram to show love to the Sixers’ superstar center.

“MVP,” the Hall of Famer wrote on Monday night.

His post came not long after Embiid scored an NBA season-high 70 points against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. In addition to his dominant scoring showing, Embiid also came down with 18 rebounds while producing five assists in the Sixers’ ten-point victory.

The NBA’s new qualifications for season awards might prevent Embiid from having a shot at becoming the league’s back-to-back MVP this year, depending on how many games he plays throughout the remainder of the season.

Either way, Embiid’s dominance will not be overlooked by a handful of absences that occurred due to in-season setbacks.
