76ers’ Mac McClung Isn't Driven by NBA G League MVP Talks
Joel Embiid isn’t the only MVP candidate in the Philadelphia 76ers’ organization. As the six-time All-Star center works on finally taking home the NBA MVP hardware after being named the runner-up over the last two seasons, the team’s two-way guard Mac McClung is in the hunt to win NBA G League MVP.
During a discussion with Stadium’s Shams Charania this week, McClung discussed the potential of winning G League MVP for his efforts this season. And similar to Joel Embiid, McClung claims he isn’t focused on winning the solo accolade, rather he’s gunning for a title.
“Well, the main goal is always to win a championship,” McClung said on Wednesday. “I’m glad we're still on the hunt for that, and that's the main goal right now. You know, individual goals like I felt like I never get attached to any certain thing like that. So whatever comes, I'll be honored and blessed, but I'm just really focused on winning a championship.”
This season, McClung has averaged 20 points, three rebounds, five assists, and one steal in 31 games with the Blue Coats. With his consistent play, McClung is in the hunt for MVP and could potentially be the first member of the Blue Coats to win it since Paul Reed was named MVP two seasons ago.
On Thursday, the Delaware Blue Coats will tip off their first playoff game of the season. This year marks the third-straight season the Blue Coats will go on a playoff run. Over the last two years, the Blue Coats have made a run for the championship but came up short of their goals.
McClung hopes to help the Blue Coats finally get the job done on the G League’s biggest stage.
