76ers News: Joel Embiid Continues Historic Scoring Streak vs. Bulls
On Monday night, the Philadelphia 76ers found themselves on their home floor playing host to the Chicago Bulls. While their win streak ended up coming to an end, another impressive run carried on in full force.
The Sixers surged late to try and steal a win from the Bulls, but they ended up losing 108-104. Joel Embiid did just about everything he could. It just wasn't enough to get his team over the hump in the matchup.
Embiid torched the Bulls' defense, finishing with a stat line of 40 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. He shot an impressive 53.6% from the field and went 8-for-9 from the free-throw line.
With this performance, Embiid extends his streak of 30-point, 10-rebound games to 12. Last week, he surpassed a Sixers Wilt Chamberlain. On Monday, he put himself in the conversation with another. The last big man to put up these types of numbers in one stretch was Moses Malone in 1982.
Malone's streak came to an end at 13 games that year. The 1982 campaign was his last season with the Houston Rockets before coming over to the Sixers. In his first year with the franchise, Malone averaged 24.5 points and 15.3 rebounds en route to helping Julius Erving lead the franchise to its first title in nearly 20 years. 1983 still marks the last time the Sixers won the NBA title.
As for Embiid, the reigning MVP continues to dominate any team put in front of him. Even on a night when he was a game-time decision, he managed to notch 40 points. The Sixers star will have a chance to extend his streak to 13 games on Wednesday against the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves.
