76ers News: Joel Embiid Shines Light on Tyrese Maxey Following Win vs. T-Wolves

Joel Embiid applauds Sixers rising star after latest win

The Philadelphia 76ers took the floor Wednesday night looking to get back on track after losing to the Chicago Bulls. This would not be an easy task, as next up on the schedule was a meeting with the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves.

Despite getting off to a shaky start, the Sixers managed to take down Minnesota in convincing fashion. They walked away with a 127-113 victory, and the play of their star players was a major catalyst.

Joel Embiid led the way with another dominant performance. He finished the game with a season-high 51 points to go along with 12 rebounds and three assists. However, despite this incredible showing, the reigning MVP shined a light on his new running mate.

Aside from Embiid, Tyrese Maxey also put together a strong outing against Minnesota. He posted a stat line of 35 points and five assists, with 15 of those points coming in the fourth quarter.

Following the win, Embiid praised Maxey down the stretch. He stated that the young guard has been big in fourth quarters this season, and continues to be their go-to late in games.

"He’s been doing that all season. That’s our guy. Fourth quarter, we know where the ball’s got to go. We’re going to go to Tyrese [Maxey], he plays the full quarters," Embiid said. "He gets hot, he’s been carrying us all season long, four quarters. We just know, we just got to give him the ball, and put the ball in his hands."

With this outing, Maxey continues his breakout season for the Sixers. In his first 26 games, he is averaging 26.1 PPG. 3.8 RPG, and 6.7 APG. Maxey's stellar play through the first quarter of the season has him in conversations for an All-Star nomination and Most Improved Player.
