76ers News: Rumored Trade Target Performs Well in Overtime Thriller
After enjoying three consecutive days off, the Philadelphia 76ers hit the road Wednesday to take on the Atlanta Hawks. Aside from trying to bounce back after two straight losses, there was a big underlying story in this matchup.
As the February 8th trade deadline gets closer, more players continue to see their names pop up in rumors. One of the most notable names brought up in recent weeks is Hawks guard Dejounte Murray.
Earlier this month, the Sixers were mentioned to have expressed interest in the former All-Star. Now, they had an opportunity to see him up close and personal.
Murray managed to put together a solid outing, doing a little bit of everything for the Hawks in their 139-132 victory. In 37 minutes of action, he tallied 25 points, five rebounds, five assists, and one steal. He converted eight of his 18 shot attempts, including going 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.
One of Murray's biggest plays of the game came on the defensive end. After Trae Young knocked down a free throw to tie the game, the Sixers still found themselves with an opportunity to steal a win in the final seconds. Tyrese Maxey tried to get Young on a switch, but Murray didn't allow it. The former All-Defense guard managed to get a stop on Maxey and help send the game into overtime.
This will be the last time the Sixers get an up-close look at Murray. While they have one more matchup on the season against the Hawks, it doesn't come until the day after the deadline.
It is worth noting that while the Sixers did check in on Murray, it didn't appear that he is at the top of their list of possible trade targets.
