76ers Rival Watch: Heat vs. Celtics ECF Schedule
Unfortunately for the Philadelphia 76ers, they weren’t able to achieve their goal of clinching a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals once again. Instead, it will be the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics battling it out for a second-straight season.
The Sixers were closer to getting there than last year. After they faced the Miami Heat in the second round as the East’s fourth seed, the Sixers came up short in six games.
This year, they battled it out with the Celtics in the second round as the third seed. The series was tighter than many probably expected, as Boston was heavily favored to defend their Eastern Conference title while heading into their series against the Sixers.
A Joel Embiid-less Sixers squad stole Game 1 on the road to take an early lead. The Celtics bounced back with two-straight wins to take a lead of their own. The Sixers then flipped the script and picked up victories over two games to make it a 3-2 series heading back home for Game 6.
From that point on, Philadelphia dropped the ball. The Sixers lost Game 6 at home as the Celtics forced Game 7. When the Sixers traveled to TD Garden on Sunday, they got pummeled by Jayson Tatum and the Celtics, who caught fire from start to finish.
Now eliminated, the Sixers will have to sit back and watch the Celtics and the Heat battle it out, beginning with Game 1 on Wednesday night.
