76ers Rumors: Landing Bruce Brown ‘Unlikely’ for Philly
The Toronto Raptors and the Indiana Pacers were the latest two teams to strike a deal in the NBA’s trade market. Once again, the Raptors moved one of their key players as they sent Pascal Siakam packing to Indiana.
On the Raptors’ side, Bruce Brown was the key acquisition in the deal that featured many moving pieces. Considering the Raptors’ current timeline might not be aligned with Brown’s, there is a growing expectation around the league that Brown could get flipped in the coming weeks with the trade deadline approaching.
Will the Sixers Get Involved?
A lot can change over the next few weeks, but according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, it’s “unlikely” the Sixers will pursue a deal for Brown before the deadline.
This season, Brown’s debut run with the Pacers featured 33 games with an average of 30 minutes on the court. As a full-time starter, Brown averaged 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game. He knocked down 48 percent of his shots from the field.
There is a legitimate argument for the Sixers to explore Brown as a possible addition. Just last season, he came off the bench for all but 31 of the 80 games he appeared in with the Denver Nuggets. At the time, Brown had a career year, averaging 12 points during the regular season.
In the playoffs, Brown averaged 27 minutes on the court. He maintained his scoring production of 12 points per game while knocking down 51 percent of his shots. Brown earned championship experience in Denver, as the Nuggets went on to win the 2023 NBA Finals.
The Sixers have until February 8 to make roster changes. So far, they haven’t been in heavy pursuit of any of the league’s most notable candidates. While Brown could be available, the Sixers seem to have their sights set elsewhere at this time.
