76ers Rumors: Which Teams Are Interested in Tobias Harris?
With the 2023 NBA Draft set to take place on Thursday night, many are curious about the Philadelphia 76ers’ game plan. Going into the big event, the Sixers don’t possess a single pick.
After trading for James Harden two seasons ago, the Sixers’ first-round pick this season originally went to the Brooklyn Nets.
Meanwhile, the Sixers forfeited their second-rounder as punishment for tampering in the signings of PJ Tucker and Danuel House Jr. last summer.
Multiple reports have hinted the Sixers could trade their way into the second round. So far, Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey has yet to make any moves to get into the draft.
The Sixers are expected to be active one way or another, and many assume there could be a chance that Tobias Harris will find a new home as well.
So far, a few teams have inquired about Harris, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Per Pompey, the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Detroit Pistons have shown interest in the sharpshooting veteran.
Over the last couple of weeks, Harris-related trade rumors have gained some steam. However, a recent report hinted that the chances of Harris getting traded on Thursday night are low.
For starters, the Sixers aren’t rushing to trade Harris. Although his contract remains expensive, with his salary nearly reaching $40 million for the upcoming season, Harris has proven to be a good fit in Philadelphia’s starting five, even though his role is constantly changing.
It seems Harris is acquirable for interested teams, but the Sixers aren’t desperate to move off his contract. Currently, the price for Harris is set high and described as “outrageous,” according to Pompey’s report.
Perhaps, one of the interested organizations can find a middle-ground with the 76ers through future negotiations. It’s unclear what the Sixers are searching for in discussions regarding a potential Harris trade, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that talks will be ongoing beyond the NBA Draft, barring any unexpected changes on Thursday.
