76ers Send Message to Retiring Philadelphia Eagles Legend
The Philadelphia sports fan base received some unsurprising yet upsetting news on Monday as Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce announced his retirement.
Considering the impact that Kelce had beyond the football field, the Philly sports community came together to share well wishes for the retiring center.
The Philadelphia 76ers took to social media to honor Kelce, re-visiting the time he sang the National Anthem before a game a couple of seasons ago.
Since 2011, Kelce donned an Eagles uniform. After getting selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Kelce was a rare late-round selection who stuck around for over a decade.
During his time with the Eagles, Kelce was named First-Team All-Pro six times, beginning in 2017. He was considered a seven-time Pro Bowler, with five-straight appearances in the game recently.
With his solo accolades, Kelce was bound to find himself in the Philly Sports Hall of Fame one way or another, but the center further strengthened his legacy by being a part of the Eagles’ first team to win the NFL’s Super Bowl in 2018.
Over the last couple of years, the veteran center was rumored to be contemplating retirement. Following the Eagles’ NFC title victory now two seasons ago, Kelce returned to Philly for the 2023-2024 season as the Eagles attempted to make another run at the Super Bowl after coming up short against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Eagles’ 2024 playoff run ended after round one. For months, there was speculation about Kelce’s future. On Monday, he announced what was believed to be inevitable at this point, confirming his retirement, leaving the Philly sports world to honor a legend that will walk away from the game.
