76ers: Three Takeaways From Win vs. Raptors
On Saturday night, the Philadelphia 76ers took down the Toronto Raptors, 114-107, giving them their first win of the season.
The Sixers started off slow, trailing the Raptors by three points leaving the first half after Tobias Harris and De'Anthony Melton had less-than-ideal performances.
Yet, the second half is where the Sixers would break out, thanks in large part to Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Kelly Oubre Jr putting up big shots.
Their comeback came despite a strong showing from Denis Schroder and Scottie Barnes with the Raptors' partnership combining for 39 points.
What Are The Takeaways From The Win?
Joel Embiid Shakes Off The Rust
The beginning of the season can sometimes prove to be a bit of a challenge for the defending MVP as he starts to get back into the swing of things.
The season opener for the Bucks was no different, with Embiid starting the match off cold, scoring 11 points in the first half, missing four free throws in the process.
Yet, against the Raptors, the Cameroonian superstar showed no signs of rust, scoring 14 points and four rebounds before ending the match with 34 points.
Maxey Continues To Cook
Maxey opened his season with a strong showing, dropping 31 points against Giannis and the Bucks, and he showed that he has no plans of slowing down against other opposition.
On Saturday night, Maxey dropped 34 points, with his masterclass from beyond the arc being a large part of it, converting seven shots from deep.
Another underrated aspect of Maxey's performance would be his seven assists, which is a clear step up from where he was a year ago, only averaging three assists per game.
Comebacks Are Inevitable
Another constant theme in the Sixers' two opening games is that they've trailed by double-digit points in both matches.
Against the Bucks, Philadelphia trailed by 19 points, against Toronto, their biggest debt was 12.
In both instances, the Sixers showed that despite being down, they're not down for the count, having big performances in the third quarter, where they have either significantly cut down the lead or taken it as they did on Saturday night.
