76ers vs. Nets: Tyrese Maxey Leaves Matchup Early
As the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets battled it out for their preseason matchup on Monday night, the Sixers’ young star guard Tyrese Maxey exited the game earlier than expected.
During the second quarter, Maxey came off the floor and went straight back to the team’s locker room to get evaluated. After spending the remainder of the second quarter away from the team, the Sixers ruled out the guard for the rest of the matchup.
According to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, Maxey is dealing with back spasms.
Before leaving the matchup, Maxey spent 15 minutes on the court for Philadelphia. During that time, he put up eight shots from the field, with three of those attempts coming from beyond the arc.
Although Maxey went scoreless from deep this time around, he still generated eight points and two assists as the Sixers got off to a dominant start in Brooklyn on Monday.
While the severity of Maxey’s setback hasn’t been revealed, the Sixers are likely keeping him out of the game to be cautious. At this point, the Sixers have seen plenty out of Maxey during the preseason.
Prior to Monday’s game, Maxey appeared in both of the Sixers’ preseason outings against the Boston Celtics. After a productive offseason, Maxey looked refreshed as he averaged nearly 30 minutes on the court. Across two games, Maxey knocked down 47 percent of his shots from the field while producing 21 points per game.
Even if the Sixers don’t clear Maxey for their next outing, which takes place on Friday at home against the Atlanta Hawks, the team is likely comfortable with giving him rest as he looks primed for the regular season at this point.
