76ers vs. Wizards: Doc Rivers' Injury Update on Jalen McDaniels
As the Philadelphia 76ers competed against the Washington Wizards for the fourth and final time this season, the Sixers couldn’t make it out of Sunday night’s game fully healthy.
While the injury report was clean heading into tip-off, one of the team’s key reserves left the matchup early as he was dealing with a setback.
Jalen McDaniels appeared on the court for roughly eight minutes on Sunday. At a point during the second quarter, McDaniels left the game and went back to the team’s locker room.
He wouldn’t return for the remainder of the second quarter. As the Sixers fired up the third quarter, the team ruled out the veteran wing for the remainder of the game.
After the matchup, Sixers head coach Doc Rivers offered a positive update on the young veteran.
“I don’t think it’s serious,” said Rivers. “I think it’s a hip contusion, back, or something in that area.”
According to a team official, McDaniels suffered a right hip contusion. Right now, the Sixers do not have a timeline for his return. Therefore, he’s likely viewed as day-to-day.
“I think he’ll be fine,” Rivers added. “It’s scary. Looked like when he first hit it, it was a scary bump, but it looks like he’ll be okay.”
McDaniels didn’t have much time to have an impact in Sunday’s game. When he left the court, he had knocked down just two of his three shots from the field and converted on both of his free throws. McDaniels finished the game with six points and one rebound.
In his absence, the 76ers took care of business. After a dominant second-half showing, the Sixers defeated the Wizards 112-93.
The Sixers are set to hit the road again this week as they have the Cleveland Cavaliers next up on the schedule for Wednesday. McDaniels status for the matchup is currently unknown.
