Daryl Morey Announces Sixers’ Acquisition of Jalen McDaniels

Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey officially announces the team's lone trade at the deadline.

The Philadelphia 76ers have officially acquired the veteran wing Jalen McDaniels in a trade that ended up expanding between four teams ahead of Thursday’s deadline. Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey officially announced the deal on Thursday night.

In addition to landing McDaniels, the Sixers have acquired draft compensation, including two second-round picks for the future.

Involved in the trade were the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, and New York Knicks

Full Details of the Trade

Between the four teams, here is the full framework of the deal:

Sixers: Jalen McDaniels, 2029 second-round pick (from Blazers), 2024 second-round pick (from Knicks via Hornets)

Blazers: Matisse Thybulle, draft rights to Ante Tomic, 2023 protected (Nos. 1-14) first-round pick (which converts to four second-round picks if not conveyed in 2023 via Knicks), Cam Reddish, Ryan Arcidiacno,

Hornets: 2023 second-round pick (most favorable of Atlanta, Brooklyn or Charlotte via Sixers), 2027 second-round pick (more favorable of New Orleans or Portland via Blazers), Svi Mykhailiuk

Knicks: Josh Hart, draft rights to Bojan Dublijevic and Daniel Diez

In the deal, the Sixers part ways with the veteran defensive standout Matisse Thybulle, who joined the Sixers as the team’s first-round draft selection during the 2019 NBA Draft after acquiring his rights via the Boston Celtics. Also, they sent out a second-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets as a part of their acquisition of McDaniels.

On Friday morning, Daryl Morey will address the media to discuss the move following Philadelphia’s routine morning shootaround ahead of their matchup against the Knicks, which is set to take place in South Philly on Friday night.
