De’Anthony Melton Leaves 76ers vs. Timberwolves Game With Injury
As the Philadelphia 76ers faced the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, the team went down a guard as De’Anthony Melton suffered an injury during the second quarter.
After getting tangled up, Melton was down on the floor for a bit before getting helped up and assisted back to the locker room. When the Sixers came out for the start of the second half, Patrick Beverley started in Melton’s place.
Shortly after, the Sixers ruled out Melton with a thigh contusion.
In the first half, Melton appeared on the court for 16 minutes. During that time, he attempted just two shots, knocking down one of his field goals. With two successful free throws, Melton scored four points during his shift. The veteran guard also collected three rebounds and dished out two assists.
Heading into Wednesday’s game, the Sixers had a few players on the injury report. The starting forward, Nic Batum, was ruled out early due to hamstring soreness. The veteran reserves Robert Covington and Marcus Morris were both questionable due to illness.
Covington was ruled out a few hours before tip-off. Morris, who went through his usual pregame routine, was eventually cleared for action. With Batum out for the night, the Sixers promoted Kelly Oubre to the starting lineup.
With Melton going down in the first half, the Sixers are down two starters for the remainder of their matchup against the Western Conference’s top-seeded Timberwolves.
Heading into halftime, the Sixers possessed a 64-60 lead. At the start of the second half, Minnesota turned the tables and found themselves out in front rather quickly.
