Delaware Blue Coats Make Roster Moves Ahead of Regular Season Opener
On Wednesday night, the Delaware Blue Coats are set to start their regular season off with a match against the Captial City Go-Go, the G-League affiliate of the Washington Wizards.
The opening match comes after the Blue Coats' unsuccessful run at the G-League's Showcase Cup, as they dropped their second match against the South Bay Lakers, 126-128.
Ahead of their match against the Go-Go, the Blue Coats made some roster moves, signing Javonte Smart, activating the recently signed Kenneth Lofton Jr, and waiving Derek Culver.
Smart, who was formerly a two-way player, was recently waived by the Philadelphia 76ers to make room for the addition of Lofton Jr.
Across the showcase run of games, Smart averaged 21 points on 47 percent shooting from the field, to a decreased 42 percent from beyond the arch.
While the rest of the Blue Coats spent time getting ready for the regular season opener, Lofton Jr spent time with the Sixers, albeit on the bench, as they took on the Miami Heat.
Lofton spent the first half of the season with the Memphis Grizzlies, appearing in 15 games, averaging two points, and one rebound, while appearing in only two games for the Memphis Hustle, where he'd put up an average of 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Culver's departure marks the end of a two-season stint with the Blue Coats, a period for the 25-year-old which saw him help Delaware be crowned G-League champions during the 2022-23 season.
The Blue Coats are set to start to take on the Captial City Go-Go on Wednesday night, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.
