Doc Rivers’ Injury Update on Tyrese Maxey After Win vs. Bucks
The Philadelphia 76ers won on Friday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately, the victory over Milwaukee came with a steep price to pay in the injury department.
As the Sixers trailed in the first half of the matchup, their starting guard Tyrese Maxey suffered an apparent lower-body injury in the second quarter. After Maxey chucked up two free throws after the injury occurred, the Sixers quickly intentionally fouled so the young guard could come off the court.
Maxey went straight back to the Sixers’ locker room to get his injury evaluated. Considering he checked out late in the second quarter, it was obvious Maxey would miss the remainder of the first half. When the Sixers and the Bucks fired up the second half, the 76ers ruled Maxey out for the rest of the game.
The former first-round pick wrapped up his 20-minute shift with an impressive showing. As Maxey drained nine of his 12 shots from the field, he finished the matchup with 24 points. He also had four rebounds and five assists.
Maxey was ruled out due to an undiagnosed injury to his left foot. When the young guard received an X-ray, the Sixers were reportedly told that the initial results were negative, which is a positive sign. However, Doc Rivers confirmed that a follow-up MRI was scheduled for Saturday morning.
“Listen, I have no idea,” Rivers responded when asked if Maxey would play in Saturday’s matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves or not. “He’s in a boot, so I’ll let you figure that out.”
The good news is that X-rays for Maxey’s foot were negative, and the young guard was in good spirits in the locker room after the matchup, according to Rivers.
“I talked to him,” Rivers continued. “He says what he always says, ‘Coach, I’m good.’ I don’t know if he’ll be good right away, would be my guess.”
The bad news for Maxey is that it sounds like he could miss time moving forward, beginning with Saturday’s matchup against the Timberwolves. If Maxey is indeed out on Saturday, the Sixers are guaranteed to be without two guards, as James Harden remains in recovery from his foot injury.
